Start with where and when performance changes. The pump, inlet supply and point of use need to be assessed as one pressure line.

At the process

Pressure is available, but the task is not being achieved.

Pressure at the pump does not describe the flow, spray pattern or pressure reaching every nozzle.

Selection focus

Compare the nozzle arrangement and simultaneous demand with pump delivery and line losses. For cleaning or descaling, include the surface condition and operating sequence so the requirement describes the work to be done.

At the inlet

Delivery becomes uneven or falls during operation.

A restricted inlet, air entry or a change in water supply can affect the liquid reaching the pumping head.

Selection focus

Include the feed arrangement, water temperature, filtration and any observations at the inlet. These help separate a supply problem from a pump-selection issue before a replacement is specified.

Across the cycle

The duty changes when outlets close or the line pauses.

An intermittent line also has stop, start and bypass conditions that differ from the working duty.

Pressure + flow

Nozzle demand and pipe losses connect pump discharge to pressure at the point of use. Check both values together to avoid specifying pressure without enough water.

Liquid + inlet supply

Restricted supply, unsuitable temperature or contamination can affect delivery and damage pump components. Match the inlet arrangement and filtration to the selected pump.

Control + operating cycle

Define normal use, stops and bypass periods. Pressure regulation and overpressure protection belong in the system discussion alongside the pump and connected equipment.

A useful specification describes the task and its operating states, then defines the pump and supporting equipment required.

How do I select a high-pressure plunger pump for cleaning or testing?

Choose the pressure and flow needed at the point of use. Nozzle demand, line losses and the process objective establish the pumping duty. A higher pressure rating alone does not show that the pump will deliver the right amount of water for the task.

Can recirculated process water be used?

Water quality must be matched to the selected pump. Include suspended matter, temperature and chemistry, together with the proposed treatment and filtration. A filtration requirement or acceptable particle level needs the applicable pump data; it should not be assumed from another system.

What should a high-pressure quotation cover?

Identify the pump and drive, required controls and protection, liquid connections and supporting equipment. State which items are already on site. Compare the agreed supply scope and applicable pressure-flow data, and keep special test or operating requirements with the quotation.
